My New Studio Day 1

A studio?

I've always been fascinated by other artist's studios, and can't resist getting a chance to have a look around one. For those of you with a similar mindset I have decided to share the story as my new studio comes into being. If you have tips on storage ideas, displays and multi-purpose work areas they will be welcomed!

The History

Like many artists I started painting on the kitchen table, the only place available at the time. I can assure you this is not the most convenient way to set out on an artistic career with a hoard of hungry children around! During an Open Studio event an extremely kind and generous couple spotted my plight (and possibly my starving children) and offered me the use of the most delightful garden studio I could have imagined. Working there has been a dream; a countryside location, a beautiful garden packed with flowers, internet free, delightful company and free business advice...it really could not have been better. I have been extremely happy there for well over a decade, and cannot thank David and Vicky enough.

But, life moves on, and I am simultaneously saddened and excited that digital media have become more important to my work. This was certainly so while I was writing my book! Having resisted the implication that it was time to leave my little piece of heaven and find alternative accommodation for my artistic endeavours, I finally gave in and admitted that it was time to move on.

But, to where? And then I spotted our garage...

My New Studio, Day 1

So after a couple of years planning, today is the day the work starts. Not on the garage itself, but on the building of the Shed-in-the-Hedge to store all the essential equipment that we keep in our garages these days. (Obviously not a car; no-one uses a garage for a car these days!)

My Much Loved Garden Studio, so sad to be leaving.

Space for a shed?
