 Class Members Notice Board

Use this page to let us know if you have something you would like other Moor to Sea Arts Class Members to know about. We thought it might be more useful to have this information in one place, rather than have you trying to remember which week you first heard about something.

If you would like to post something here, please email us or use our Contact Us page and we will add it to the page when we do our weekly update. Please make sure you include all the relevant information, which may include images.

Delamore Arts 2025

The annual exhibition at Delamore is coming up…

Take your time wandering around, and look out for Justin Rees work (Wednesday morning group). He tells us there are “3 silly fish” and something else he was “quite pleased with”.

Well done Justin!

Tickets are cheaper when bought online. Click on the poster for a link to their site.

Sky Arts Artist of the Year MASTERCLASS

This series of Masterclass programme is excellent.

We are aware that not all of you have Sky, but fear not, there is also a web page (link on title) that summarises each program with step-by-steps and other supplementary material. If you do have Sky we would thoroughly recommend recording the series and keeping it to watch at your leisure. It is also available on NowTV (there are fees).

The programmes are presented by winners and contestants of Portrait Artist of he Years and Landscape Artist of the Year. The first programme, about the importance of tone, is presented by Tai-Shan Schierenberg and is excellent. His teaching is very clear and easy to follow.

There are due to be 40 programmes in the series; I think approximately 18 have been shown so far.

SPAIN 2025

Some of you have expressed an interest in coming to Spain with us for an art holiday in Mairena. Siân has been in touch with Emma at Las Chimeneas, and we are considering dates in May 2025, either 11th-17th, 17th -24th or 24th - 31st May.

If you are considering coming along please chat to Siân, as if you are confident that you would like to join us which dates we choose might be influenced by yourselves. Currently our preference is for 11th-17th May.

Here is a link to the page from this website about the holiday I ran in 2023. I would expect everything to be very similar, but do remember the prices you see on this page will need to be adjusted for 2025.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CLASSES ON TUES JUNE 4TH

Unfortunately we are unable to run the planned classes on Tuesday 4th June as we will be attending a family funeral in Wales.

In order that you do not miss out on a class this term we are considering a number of options. We have laid out the options below.  It’s a a shame that we are not able to simply extend the term by one week, probably the easiest alternative, but we are already committed on Tuesdays in July.

There is a possibility we can have the room at Harbour House on Thursday 6th June, for both morning and afternoon classes. If we choose to do this we will need a minimum number of people able to come on that date. It would be really helpful if you could have a think about them as if we are going to run classes on June 6th we need to let Harbour House know by Wednesday this week (14.5.24)

Option 1: Please consider whether you would like to attend at your regular time on Thursday 6th June.

Option 2: If numbers are low it might work we run just one of the classes on Thursday 6th June. Please could you consider whether you would be willing to come to the other class on that date ( i.e. morning swap to afternoon class and vice versa)

Option 3: There will be four weeks left (excluding 6th June) when you might choose to make up the missed class by staying all day.

Option 4: If you are unable or do not wish to take up any of the alternatives to your regular class we will of course refund you for the missed class at £15.

We apologise in advance we make a decision which means you are unable to have your first choice of alternative. At the risk of making this overly complicated it would be very useful if you could let us know which is your preferred option, followed by other options you are able to take up ( e.g. you might prefer Thursday afternoon, but would be able and willing to come on Thursday morning or stay for a whole day on a Tuesday).

DELAMORE ARTS

The annual Delamore Arts exhibition opens on Wednesday. It is open every day in May, 10.30 to 16.30. This exhibition is a great place to view an eclectic selection of artwork, including paintings, prints and sculpture which you may find inspiring.

You will find a gallery of work submitted by local artists in the main house. Take a few moments to find four works by Justing Rees ( Wednesday morning group); they are bound to raise a smile.

The old stables houses an exhibition by The South West Academy, which includes an oil painting of a gorgeous sunset by Rob. It is worth the walk down to see this exhibition, as the standard is very high. In particular we both noted two exquisite charcoal drawings by Ian Cox; do take your time to stand in front of them and try to analyse how he achieved them.

Just near the stables there is an exhibition of prints by Contemporary British Printers. Sculptures can be seen dotted around the grounds and in the main gallery.

The grounds themselves are a pleasure to walk around, and we spotted a very nice tea room, but unfortunately didn't have time to do enough research on that for you.

Day Entry £12. Day entry at the gate £12.50. Season Ticket £35

For more information and to book tickets visit their website. Delamore Arts

HARBOUR HOUSE COMMUNITY MEETING

INTERESTING REFERENCES

Frank Prowse (Tuesday morning class) also attends a photography group. Yesterday he was introduced to a photographer whose photographs Frank feels might be of interest to you. Check out Paul Mitchell’s website. His photographs are stunningly beautiful and truly inspirational.

Although the section in his portfolio on Wiltshire features some gorgeous bluebell woods, I have to say it is the clouds and skies that I am finding wonderful!

Please keep copyright law in mind when using other people’s photographs as inspriation. As long as the artwork you produce is for yourself there is no problem, and you might find Paul’s site a very useful source of inspiration!

Klimt and The Kiss

Thank you to Elaine, who has brought this upcoming event at Plymouth Arts Cinema to our attention.

“The Kiss by Gustav Klimt is one of the most recognised and reproduced paintings in the world. It is perhaps the most popular poster on student dorm walls from Beijing to Boston.
Painted in Vienna around 1908, the evocative image of an unknown embracing couple has captivated viewers with its mystery, sensuality and dazzling materials ever since it was created. But just what lies behind the appeal of the painting – and just who was the artist that created it?”

For dates, times and more details follow this link:

If I can get there, I will, it promises to be very interesting.

Plymouth Arts Cinema

Much to our shame, we have to admit that we have taken little notice of this valuable resource in Plymouth! Having just spent some time looking at their website I think it is something Rob and I should investigate further… we have been missing out! Click on the title above to take a look for yoursleves. If you have any information about this venue and your experiences there we would love to hear about them.

ART outdoors

The Outdoor Art sessions this summer, Art in the Garden at Lukesland, and Art at the Allotment, were great fun and enjoyed by everyone who attended. We may put on more sessions thought the year. As these are ad hoc sessions, definitely weather dependent, there will not be much notice, so do you keep an eye out for them!

MOOR TO SEA ARTS ARTY STUFF

This is a Facebook page that we set up during lockdown so that class members could keep in touch with each other without us passing on personal details. It is a private Facebook group, which means that membership has to be approved by us. Of course, all class members are welcome and will be granted membership! The group is also open to folk who have attended our classes in the past and would like to keep in touch.

While the Class Notice Board will be restricted to items that specifically relate to current class members and Moor to Sea Arts as a business, Moor to Sea Arts Arty Stuff has a wider reach. For example, you can share details of all art exhibitions on the Facebook page, but only those you are exhibiting in on the Notice Board.

We keep an eye on this group, but do not visit the page regularly. If you would like to join it send us a request via Facebook, but also make sure we know to respond by emailing us too :)
