The main aim of the afternoon will be to enjoy ourselves, while picking up tips and techniques from Sian for sketching or painting outdoors. There are many reasons for making art outdoors, from the experience of sitting quietly absorbing and recording your environment, to making preparations for a full painting later. Not all art is about creating masterpieces!

The afternoon will begin with Siân will giving a short demonstration giving tips on how to consider your subject matter so that you can make a meaningful or useful sketch. This will include a quick demonstration of pencil techniques. Siân will be also be bringing a small palette of watercolours to demonstrate how she makes colour notes on location. Using her iPad or smartphone Siân will also demonstrate how to take photographs that supplement your sketches, so that you have extra visual information to use at home if you should choose to develop your sketches into a drawing or painting.

Following these demonstrations participants will go off to choose their subject matter and make their own artwork , while Siân will circulate helping and giving advice to individuals.

The afternoon will conclude with tea and cake on the community plot. This will be an opportunity to share our experiences of the afternoon. Please note: there is NO OBLIGATION to show your work to anyone other than Siân!

Participants bring their own materials. At the minimum you will need paper, pencils, a sharpener, an eraser and something to rest your work on. Please bring along the materials you feel most comfortable using. Cameras are optional; smartphones and simple cameras are fine.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1 Booking is advised as there are a maximum number of 12 places. You may book by paying online via this website. If you prefer not to book online please contact Siân. TO CONTACT Siân CLICK HERE. Your place is secured on receipt of payment. You may pay on the day if places are available.

2 This activity will take place if there are a minimum number of 5 participants have confirmed (paid for) places by 18th August. If this number is not reached and the event cancelled a full refund will be given where applicable. Notice of cancellation will be given on this website and Ivybridge Allotments facebook page on 18th August.

3 Booking is open to Ivybridge Allotment Holders ONLY before 14th August. After that date booking will be open to the general public. Members of the public booking before 14th of August risk disappointment as priority will be given to allotment holders ; a refund will be given minus an admin fee of £2.50

4 Please note that to an extent this event is weather dependent. In the event of the weather being too poor for us to go ahead, I will inform participants by posting the information on this website and the Ivybridge Allotments Facebook page. You will be refunded in full.

5 Participants are required to be aware that this is a working allotment site and that priority will be given to allotmenteers at all times. Care should be taken when choosing a position to set up for drawing or painting so as not to prevent free movement around the site for folk tending their allotments.

6 Participants will be expected to stick to the paths, and not trespass on to allotments. Please take care not to damage plants which are growing adjacent to paths.

7 Please be aware that a working allotment site will contain hazards, and care should be taken at all times. Participants who do not hold an allotment will be required to sign a disclaimer agreeing that Ivybridge Allotment Association will not be held responsible for injuries occurring while on the allotment site.
