The earliest crocuses are an early spring flower that never fail to make me smile. Each a tiny little pop of colour, they are often found in great swathes, brightening my day and bringing longed for colour in months that are often grey here in England. This little band of crocuses seemed to be dancing down a gentle slope in a friends garden, full of the joys of Spring.

My process of creating floral paintings starts with careful observations through sketching and photographs of the subject. While focusing on the blooms, I sometimes overlook the charming scene of crocuses emerging among vibrant green blades of grass, typically nestled among companions like fritillaries and daffodils in garden settings. My fascination lies in the intricate details of flowers—their hues, forms, and the ethereal quality when sunlight filters through their delicate petals. Consequently, my artistic focus tends to center on solely portraying the essence of the blooms that are delighting me.
