Siân’s inspiration for her Sketching Mitts comes initially from the gorgeous textures and colours of yarns… painting with wool! As an experienced knitter and as an artist herself her designs always keep in mind the practical attributes of the different styles she creates. Sian’s yarns are chosen with eco-friendliness very much in mind. Many of Siân’s fingerless gloves start with a delve through her stash of oddments left over from previous knitting projects, combining colours and textures into charming designs that evolve as she knits. Each delightful pair is genuinely unique!

The Quirky Ones were Designed for adaptability. The aim was to create sketching mitts that would be long enough to allow them to extend beyond the fingertips for extra warmth when not sketching, but without a ‘turn back’ that can be bulky when trying to hold a pencil.

The resulting Quirky Ones therefore feature extra length, and two thumb holes! To reveal your fingers so that a you can hold a pencil use the first thumbhole.

Sliding the Mitt along your hand and buttoning the top keeps your fingers covered and cosy.

Using the second thumbhole means that you can still easily pick up your art bag for the walk home. Buttons ensure the thumbhole not in use closes to keep out drafts.

Knitted in a DK yarn they are also soft enough to scrunch right up to wear as a wrist warmer.

SIZE The mittens are designed to fit an average ladies hand. Knitted fabrics are both snug and stretchy in nature, easily adapting to a variety of hand shapes and sizes, providing a comfortable and snug fit for everyone.

YARN These mitts were made using a DK (double knit) weight yarn. This means they will be light enough to wear indoors in a chilly studio, and cosy enough for a comfortable sketching session en plein air.

COLOUR The main colour is a rich purple, with detailing in a fluffy red yarn and red buttons. (Please note that the actual colour of the gloves may differ for their appearance on screen)

CARE INSTRUCTIONS Treat as pure wool. Gently hand wash in cool water. Do not wring. Re-shape while damp. Dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
